Ghanaian highlife, Neo Soul and soul singer Eldah Naa Abiana Dickson better known by her stage name Abiana has narrated her past struggles.

When she was trying so hard to build her career as a musician, the award-winning astute vocalist said her stepmother was against it.

Her stepmother, according to the musician, will punish her severely for going to musical practice.

Even when she is at home, her stepmother will never give her the opportunity to go.

As determined as she was, Abiana said she will always run to go for the rehearsal despite the lashes she will receive afterwards.

“I quite remember when I was young and trying to pursue my career in music, my stepmother was against my dream… When I hear the piano then I would start jumping… Anytime I wanted to go for rehearsal she would say they shouldn’t allow me to go then she would give me severe beatings because I had probably not done my house chores,” she narrated

She continued, “She(my stepmother) would punish me but would still find my way to go and sing …. I love singing, so right after SHS, I started to pursue my career … so that was where I started the reality shows and I have never given up.”

However, Abiana’s perseverance and past struggles have paid off since she debuted as a backing vocalist for Harmony Band in 2013.

She later became the lead singer of Hsykul’s band in 2014 before going solo in 2020 and signing with +233 Records.

Abiana appeared on Okyeame Kwame’s “Bolgatanga Girl,” which won record of the year at the 2020 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, in 2019, and later released her first single, “Adun lei,” in October 2020.

Through Adun lei, Abiana gained two nominations at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, in the best female vocal performance and songwriter categories.

She eventually won female vocalist of the year, beating off competition from Adina, Yaa Yaa, Cina Soul, Efe Grace, and Enuonyam.

Adun Lei was also nominated for the best photography and best special effect awards at the 2021 4Syte Music Video Awards.

The Adun Lei won the best photography award. In December 2020, her second single, Amen, was released, and her third, titled Bo N Ni, in March 2021.

Two weeks after annexing the VGMA award, Abiana released a single titled “Me and You,” a love tune that expresses the woes and extremes of love and relationships.
