Accra: Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has expressed displeasure over claims by some individuals that he is not articulate in English and therefore does not actively contribute during parliamentary proceedings.
According to Ghana Web, A Plus addressed these criticisms in a video shared on X on August 14, 2026. He argued that many Ghanaians have been conditioned to believe that a good and hardworking Member of Parliament is one who is loud and constantly speaks on the floor. The MP claimed that his children, who reside in the United Kingdom, speak better English than some of the MPs often described as eloquent by Ghanaians.
A Plus remarked, "I don't blame them. I feel sad for them. Sometimes what makes me angry is when people say I don't speak in Parliament because I can't speak English. The English some people speak in Parliament, when I show it to my children, they ask me, 'What are they saying?'"
The MP further emphasized that his children do not understand what some MPs are saying in Parliament, suggesting that the English spoken by these MPs may not be as proper as perceived. He pointed out that his primary focus is to bring development to his constituency, not to engage in unnecessary shouting during debates.
"What I'm trying to tell you is that we have made it look like just going to the floor of Parliament and screaming makes you the best MP," A Plus added. He reiterated that his intention in Parliament was to implement changes in Gomoa Central rather than creating a ruckus to appear active.
