Accra: Reverend Eddie Eyison, the National Treasurer of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), has announced a new initiative that allows musicians within the union to call each other for free. This initiative is part of MUSIGA’s ongoing efforts to enhance welfare interventions and support systems for its members.
According to Ghana Web, Rev Eyison revealed during an interview on Hitz FM that MUSIGA has partnered with corporate entities to provide both financial and communication support for its members. The union has secured an insurance policy with SIC Insurance Company and has introduced a pension scheme in collaboration with Stallion Group, aiming to help musicians plan for life beyond their active careers.
Rev Eyison further disclosed MUSIGA’s collaboration with MTN Ghana to offer a special communication package that facilitates free calls among musicians. ‘We have an insurance scheme from SIC and a pension scheme from Stallion. Apart from that, MUSIGA has enrolled with MTN, and we also have an association bundle where every musician can call another musician for free,’ he stated.
The union’s overarching goals focus on strengthening the music industry and safeguarding the interests of musicians in Ghana. MUSIGA aims to fully organise musicians nationwide to collectively pursue professional development while ensuring their welfare and rights are protected.
MUSIGA is also committed to protecting the creative and performing rights of musicians, ensuring that their works are respected and properly managed. The union seeks to maintain an influential presence in national discussions impacting musicians, particularly in employment conditions, remuneration, and professional relationships with employers and industry stakeholders.
Beyond advocacy, MUSIGA prioritises the general welfare of musicians by promoting initiatives that support their wellbeing during and after their careers. This includes programmes specifically designed for retired musicians and efforts to establish comprehensive health, life, and accident insurance schemes for members.
