Mozambican President Advocates for Economic Independence Through Industrialization

Maputo: Mozambican President Daniel Francisco Chapo urged the nation to strive for economic self-reliance as Mozambique celebrated its 51st year of independence. His call to action came during the national celebrations at Heroes Square in Maputo, where he emphasized the importance of translating political independence, achieved in 1975, into economic prosperity.

According to Ghana News Agency, President Chapo highlighted the need for increased production, industrialization, job creation, and effective utilization of Mozambique's natural resources. He expressed that in light of global transformations, economic crises, geopolitical tensions, climate change, terrorism, and ongoing inequalities, the country must unite to achieve economic independence.

President Chapo advocated for building a productive and diversified economy to meet domestic needs and create opportunities for future generations. He outlined a vision for Mozambique that focuses on producing more food, industrializing the economy, adding value to natural resources, exporting knowledge, and creating jobs, particularly for young people and women.

He also connected the country's economic goals to ongoing reforms in the extractive sector, underscoring government initiatives to enhance benefits from Mozambique's mineral, oil, and gas resources through increased local value addition.
