Wenchi: The number of girls participating in the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region has surpassed that of boys, as revealed by statistics from the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of Education.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Mary Nyarko Adu-Twum, the Wenchi Municipal Director of Education, stated that a total of 2,433 candidates are sitting for the BECE in the municipality. Out of these, 1,347 are girls, while 1,086 are boys. The examination commenced on Monday, May 4, at various centers across the municipality.
Mrs. Adu-Twum, in an interview with the media in Wenchi, mentioned that the candidates were drawn from 72 public and 23 private schools. These students are taking their exams at 10 centers spread throughout the municipality.
She further elaborated that 10 supervisors and 82 invigilators are overseeing the BECE. Additionally, 13 schools are participating in the French examination, while 10 schools are involved in the Arabic examination. Specifically, 424 candidates are expected to write French, and 288 will write Arabic.
Mrs. Adu-Twum emphasized that examination malpractices are a serious offense and advised candidates to avoid any temptations to engage in such actions, urging them to work independently.
