Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament has expressed outrage over the alleged abduction of Mr Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, a former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).
According to Ghana News Agency, the Caucus describes the actions as 'unacceptable' and an 'abuse of power.' A statement issued by Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, said Mr Nkansah was earlier invited by the NIB on Thursday, February 5, 2026, to assist with investigations into an allegation he made on Sompa Radio 106.5 but was asked to go home without being charged.
The statement further detailed that on Monday, February 9, 2026, Mr Nkansah was again invited by the NIB while in Kumasi visiting his seriously ill father and was subsequently taken to his house by heavily armed NIB agents to conduct a search, after which he was taken back to the NIB office. The Minority Caucus expressed concern that Mr Nkansah's rights had allegedly been infringed upon and that the actions of the NIB were 'politically targeted and willfully carried out to cower people who speak out on matters at variance with the activities of the government of the day.'
The statement emphasized that the real essence of governance is to serve the interests of the people, highlighting ongoing issues such as the payment of cocoa farmers, unemployment, and the rising cost of living as pressing concerns for Ghanaians. The Caucus criticized the action of the NIB on the alleged directive of the government as an unfortunate diversion from the economic realities confronting the ordinary Ghanaian.
The Minority Caucus called for the immediate release of Mr Nkansah and urged that further investigations be conducted in a civil and dignified manner.
