Accra: Works, Housing and Water Resources Minister Ahmed Ibrahim has issued a stern warning to contractors involved in government projects, emphasizing the consequences of failing to deliver on obligations such as drain-dredging. He highlighted the government's intolerance towards contractors who neglect their duties, stressing the importance of ensuring taxpayer money is well spent.
According to Ghana Web, Minister Ibrahim announced the implementation of regular monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure that commitments made in project meetings lead to tangible outcomes. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining accountability through consistent follow-ups on project milestones, challenges, and corrective actions.
Minister Ibrahim also revealed plans for his team, including the Chief Director and Deputy Minister, to visit all 76 consulting projects scheduled for 2026 to assess progress. He stressed the importance of accountability in the execution of these projects, citing their scheduled completion by November.
Furthermore, the minister warned contractors who have secured government contracts but have not commenced work, stating they risk future opportunities. He made it clear that contractors deliberately failing to execute projects would be blacklisted, effectively barring them from participating in future bids under the ministry and its agencies.
The minister concluded by emphasizing that the era of political entitlement in public contracting must end, and that only those committed to delivering quality work would be considered for future projects.
