Accra: Iddrisu Mariam Aziz is a name that became synonymous with inclusivity during President John Mahama's 'Building the Ghana We Want Together' campaign, back in 2024. As Mahama toured the country, Mariam ensured that the hearing-impaired community was not left out of the national conversation, translating his speeches into sign language with precision, passion, and a lot of commitment.
According to Ghana Web, Mariam's journey into sign language interpretation is deeply personal. Growing up with hearing-impaired parents, she naturally became a bridge between them and the wider world, honing her skills from an early age. This foundation prepared her for the national stage, where she has since made history as one of Ghana's most visible and impactful interpreters in the political space.
Beyond the campaign trail, Mariam is a student at the University of Ghana and the founder of the AIM Trust Foundation, a platform through which she advocates for the rights and welfare of the deaf community. Her work empowering marginalised groups has earned her admiration and respect, making her a role model for young Ghanaians across the country.
