Accra: The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has nominated disability rights expert and policy advocate Mawunyo Kuma Yakor-Dagbah as Ghana's representative for election to the Expert Committee of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD): The nomination was announced on the Ministry's official page on April 14, 2026.
According to Ghana Web, the Ministry expressed confidence in her capacity to serve effectively and contribute to global efforts aimed at strengthening disability rights and inclusion. Yakor-Dagbah is a disability rights expert, policy influencer, and advocate with experience spanning national, regional, and international disability governance systems. She serves as a Board Member of the Africa Albinism Network and has been actively involved in advocacy for marginalised disability groups, particularly persons with albinism.
Yakor-Dagbah has also contributed to strengthening cross-border collaboration across West Africa and influencing regional disability policy discussions. Her participation in United Nations disability rights platforms, including the UN Conference of States Parties to the CRPD, has been pivotal in policy dialogue, global knowledge exchange, and accountability efforts on disability rights.
At the national level, she has served on the Board of the National Council on Persons with Disability and as a Technical Committee Member for the review of Ghana's Persons with Disability Act (Act 715), contributing to legislative reform and policy development. She is widely recognised for her work at the intersection of lived experience, policy expertise, and institutional leadership in advancing disability inclusion.
