Medical Herbalist Details Three Major Risk Factors for Erectile Dysfunction

Accra: A principal medical herbalist, Dr Prince Osei, has identified three major risk factors associated with erectile dysfunction in men; physical conditions, psychological issues, and medication-related causes.

According to Ghana Web, Dr Osei, in an interview on UTV on April 13, 2026, explained that underlying health conditions, particularly chronic diseases, can significantly increase the risk. He highlighted that physical conditions such as diabetes and hypertension can lead to erectile dysfunction, especially when blood flow is affected. This is often due to conditions like atherosclerosis, where blood vessels become narrowed or blocked, as well as other muscular or nervous system issues.

He further noted the critical role of mental health in sexual performance, emphasizing how psychological factors often contribute to the condition. Stress, anxiety disorders, and depression, especially when linked to work pressure and financial challenges, can significantly impact erectile function.

Additionally, Dr Osei pointed out that certain medications might have erectile dysfunction as a side effect. Medications such as some blood pressure drugs, antidepressants, and the long-term use of allergy medications were specifically mentioned as potential contributors to the condition.

The herbalist stressed the importance for men to be aware of their physical and mental health, along with the medications they are taking, to effectively manage and prevent erectile dysfunction.
