Kumasi: The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has revealed that several Municipal Chief Executives (MCEs) in the Ashanti Region are implementing borehole projects, each costing an average of GHS100,000, with the approval of the government. Assafuah emphasized that this initiative is part of an authorized effort to enhance water access in various communities.
According to Ghana Web, Assafuah discussed this development during an interview on Oyerepa FM on Monday, March 30, 2026. The Old Tafo MP stated, "I can confidently disclose that the Asokwa MCE and other MCEs in the Ashanti Region have been drilling boreholes costing an average of GHS100,000." He pointed out that the figures cited accurately represent the current implementation on the ground.
Assafuah, who has experience as a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, highlighted his understanding of such projects. He insisted that the process has received the necessary governmental support, stating, "Don't forget I have been a Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development before, and I know there has been approval for the MCEs to be drilling these boreholes."
However, the Asokwa MCE, who was present during the discussion, challenged the average cost cited by Assafuah. He argued that in his municipality, borehole projects typically cost between GHS80,000 and GHS90,000, indicating that there are variations in pricing across different districts.
