Accra: Respected Ghanaian entrepreneur and leadership development advocate Mary Anane Awuku has challenged the notion that leadership is dominated by men, insisting that women wield far more influence in society than is often acknowledged.
According to Ghana Web, Awuku made the comments on The Career Trail programme aired on Joy Learning TV and Joy News. She highlighted the substantial influence women have, often beyond visible leadership positions, and encouraged women to embrace their potential and confidence in achieving their goals.
Awuku referenced a biblical analogy to illustrate her point on influence and decision-making. By pointing out that Eve influenced Adam, she questioned who was truly in control, emphasizing the power women hold. She explained that even if men are seen as leaders, women often play a significant role in directing outcomes.
Awuku dismissed the idea that the world is strictly male-dominated, highlighting the increasing global female representation in leadership roles. She noted the presence of women as heads of state and CEOs, demonstrating a shift towards gender diversity in leadership.
Awuku's comments were not aimed at sparking controversy but rather at empowering women to recognize and harness their inherent power. She pointed out that women are excelling in entrepreneurship and leadership spaces, with many successful female entrepreneurs surpassing their male counterparts.
