Manhunt Underway After Konongo Cell Breakout; One Suspect Rearrested

Konongo:A suspect who was among six inmates that escaped from the Konongo Police cells in the Ashanti Region's Asante Akyem Central Municipality has been rearrested by law enforcement officers.

According to Ghana Web, security personnel quickly launched a manhunt following the breakout and successfully apprehended one of the fugitives in a suburb of Kumasi. Efforts are ongoing to locate and capture the five remaining escapees still at large.

The escape occurred when the group tunneled through a wall leading to the police station's detached washroom facility and fled during the night. Dr. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, Chief Executive for the Asante Akyem Central Municipal Assembly, confirmed the situation and announced that the Municipal Security Council is taking immediate action to strengthen security at the station.

Plans are underway to reinforce the cell walls to prevent further escapes. In the long term, the assembly is considering constructing a new police station and increasing the deployment of police personnel to enhance night-time security in the community. Additionally, improvements to the station's visibility are being planned, including upgraded lighting systems and the installation of surveillance cameras for better oversight of the premises.
