Obuasi:Ghanaian investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has brought to light a disturbing case involving the alleged sexual abuse of female students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School by the headmaster, Zakaria Abdulia.
According to Ghana Web, Manasseh Azure shared that five girls reported being assaulted by the headmaster in March but were compelled to remain silent after their complaints. Another complaint was filed in July by a young lady who alleged that she was invited to the headmaster's bungalow, where she was locked inside and sexually assaulted.
Manasseh Azure also highlighted that some house mistresses reportedly instructed the girls not to disclose their experiences, and parents who attempted to report the incidents to the police faced significant obstacles.
Furthermore, Manasseh Azure criticized a committee of inquiry established by the Ghana Education Service (GES), which he claims targeted teachers who supported the students rather than addressing the abuse. These teachers were allegedly pressured to leave, while the headmaster was quietly transferred to another school.
In addition, Manasseh Azure mentioned receiving reports of similar allegations against the headmaster during his tenure as assistant headmaster at Toase Senior High School, suggesting a pattern of behavior.
