Accra: Majority Leader Maham Ayariga has praised Parliament for its dedication and commitment to Ghana's development. Addressing the House, he expressed gratitude to God, the Speaker, and colleagues for their support throughout the First Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, which adjourned sine die on Friday, March 27.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Ayariga, who also serves as the Leader of Government Business in the House, commended President John Dramani Mahama for delivering a State of the Nation (SONA) message that accurately reflected the state of the Ghanaian economy, filled with hope and optimism. He noted, "Mr. Speaker, His Excellency the President delivered a message that reflected the true state of the Ghanaian economy, one that is filled with hope, optimism, confidence, and goodwill to the Ghanaian populace."
Mr. Ayariga, who is also the Bawku Central National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP), highlighted key achievements during the session, including the passage of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025 aimed at addressing youth unemployment. "The passage of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, 2025, is a testament to the commitment of the government in addressing the issue of youth unemployment that has become a security threat to our nation," he said.
He urged his colleagues to remain committed to their constituents and to serve with integrity and dedication, stating, "as we adjourn this Meeting, I urge honourable members to remain engaged with their constituents, to listen attentively to their concerns, and to continue to serve with integrity and dedication."
The session saw the passage of nine bills, including the Education Regulatory Bodies (Amendment) Act, 2006, and the Ghana Deposit Protection (Amendment) Act, 2026. Additionally, three instruments were presented, and resolutions were passed for the ratification of agreements.
Mr. Ayariga paid tribute to the late Alhaji Naser Toure Mahama, who passed away on January 4, 2026, and welcomed new member Alhaji Baba Jamal, who won the Ayawaso East by-election. He also thanked the Parliamentary Service, led by the Clerk to Parliament, and the Parliamentary Press Corps for their support, concluding with, "May God bless our Homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong."
Parliament reconvened on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.
