Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has announced a significant ministerial reshuffle in his second term, nominating Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Member of Parliament (MP) for Klottey Korle, as Minister-Designate for Environment, Science and Technology.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bawku Central and Majority Leader in Parliament, has been nominated as Minister-Designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. A statement from Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, indicated that President Mahama has submitted the names of these nominees to Parliament for approval, in line with Article 78(1).
The statement further detailed that Mr Kenneth Gilbert Adjei has been reassigned from the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources to the Ministry of Defence. Meanwhile, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim has been moved from the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources.
This reshuffle follows the tragic helicopter accident on August 6, 2025, which claimed the lives of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, then Defence Minister, and Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, then Minister of Environment, Science and Technology, along with six other prominent Ghanaians. The accident occurred in Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region during a national assignment. President Mahama recently led the nation in observing the first anniversary of their passing on August 6, 2026.
