Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has extended his condolences to the families of Ghanaian victims of Sunday's terrorist attack in a village in Burkina Faso. He made the remarks during the official opening of the Ghana Tree Crops Investment Summit 2026 in Accra.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama addressed the threat of instability and security in the region, emphasizing the importance of regional integration and trade. He noted the longstanding tradition of trade between Ghana and Burkina Faso, highlighting the exchange of agricultural products such as onions and tomatoes.
The President recounted the recent tragic incident where Ghanaian traders were ambushed by armed insurgents in Burkina Faso while purchasing tomatoes. He confirmed that several Ghanaian nationals were killed in the attack, though some survivors have been reported.
President Mahama assured the affected families that the Ghana Army is making arrangements to medivac the injured survivors from Burkina Faso to Ghana for further medical treatment. He expressed the government's and people's condolences to the families of those who lost their lives or were injured in the attack.
