Accra: President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday broke ground for the construction of the Norbert Anku Solar Park, a flagship solar project of Solar For Industries (SFI) at Agortor in the Dawa Industrial Enclave of the Greater Accra Region. The solar park, named in honor of the late Mr. Norbert Cormla Djampos Anku, aims to enhance solar power generation for industries.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Norbert Anku Solar Park is spearheaded by SFI, a subsidiary of LMI Holdings Limited. The initiative is poised to supply power to the Enclave Power Company (EPC) network, focusing on serving industrial clients rather than contributing to the national grid.
The project is set to become one of the largest solar installations in West Africa, with plans to reach a capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MWp) by 2032. The development will be executed in phases, starting with an initial 200 MWp installation. This makes it the largest and only private utility-scale solar farm in sub-Saharan Africa, excluding South Africa.
The execution timeline for the project is divided into two phases. The first phase, comprising 100 MWp, is anticipated to be completed by December 2026. The subsequent 100 MWp will follow within nine months thereafter.
