Ghana Gas CEO Warns Against Pipeline Encroachment by Illegal Miners and Farmers

Ellembelle:The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana National Gas Company, Judith Adjobah Blay, has issued a warning to illegal miners and farmers regarding the encroachment on the company's gas pipeline infrastructure. She emphasized that any damage to these pipelines could lead to disruptions in power generation and cause nationwide power outages.

According to Ghana Web, the warning was delivered at the Nzema Manle Queen Mothers Conference 2026, held in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region under the theme, 'The Role of Queen Mothers in the Development of Nzema Manle.' Blay highlighted the increasing encroachment on the company's pipelines by illegal mining and farming activities.

Judith Blay stressed the importance of protecting the more than 400 kilometers of high-pressure gas pipelines operated by Ghana Gas, describing them as a critical national asset. To safeguard these pipelines, the company has recruited local residents for monitoring and is calling on Queen Mothers to assist in community sensitization efforts.

Blay announced plans to mark the pipeline right-of-way, extending 17.5 meters on each side of the pipelines, creating a total corridor of 35 meters in accordance with international standards. These areas will be marked in yellow and equipped with warning signs to alert residents and land users about the associated dangers.

The Acting President of the Nzemanle Queen Mothers Association, Awulae Hemah Adalakyie II, responded by pledging the association's support in educating community members about the risks of encroaching on gas pipelines. She warned that negligence or interference could endanger entire communities and urged residents to be cautious.

Awulae Hemah Adalakyie II highlighted the severe consequences an explosion could have and affirmed the determination of traditional authorities to protect lives and prevent tragedies. She also discussed the revival of the Nzemanle Queen Mothers Association, which aims to promote development and the welfare of women and their communities across Nzemaland.
