Lusaka: President John Dramani Mahama, accompanied by his wife Lordina Mahama, arrived in Lusaka, Zambia on Wednesday afternoon for a three-day official visit. They were welcomed at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and Ghana's High Commissioner to Zambia, Madam Elizabeth Nyantakyi.
According to Ghana News Agency, President Mahama arrived at 1305 hours on a special aircraft provided by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler of the United Arab Emirates. This visit follows his attendance at the 2026 Global Governance Summit in Dubai. Over the course of his stay, President Mahama is scheduled to engage in bilateral talks with President Hichilema, focusing on diplomatic relations, trade and investment cooperation, and opportunities within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
A significant part of the visit includes President Mahama addressing the National Assembly of Zambia, where he will discuss Ghana's vision for a more integrated Africa. The itinerary also includes a wreath-laying ceremony at Embassy Park to honor Zambia's fallen heroes and a meeting with the Ghanaian community in Lusaka.
Additionally, a Ghana-Zambia Business Dialogue will be co-chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema, offering a platform for showcasing Ghana's digital technologies and fintech services to Zambian businesses and government institutions. This dialogue aims to foster economic partnerships and knowledge exchange between the two nations.
President Mahama's visit signifies his commitment to enhancing Africa's connectivity through improved infrastructure, expanded trade, and the free movement of people and goods. His delegation includes key officials such as Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Foreign Affairs Minister, and Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, among others.
