Accra: The legal representative of the late Daddy Lumba's maternal family, along with the organisers of his 'Celebration of Life' event, has announced the date for the ruling on an injunction application filed by Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu, which seeks to halt the programme.
According to Ghana Web, the lawyer revealed that the hearing of the injunction application was initially set for March 23, 2026. However, due to the government's declaration of that day as a public holiday, the organisers' legal team, led by Papa Shee, submitted a request known as an abridgement of time to expedite the hearing.
An abridgement of time allows cases to be heard sooner than scheduled, typically in urgent situations. The lawyer explained that they sought to advance the hearing date from March 23 to address the matter promptly.
After filing the application, the organisers' legal team served the process on Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu's lawyers, following court procedures. However, counsel for Abusuapanyin requested an adjournment to March 26, 2026, a date the organisers deemed impractical due to its proximity to the event.
Both parties presented their arguments in court, and it was decided that the hearing would take place on March 25, 2026. The court assured both sides that a ruling on the injunction application would be delivered on that date, based on the affidavits and legal arguments submitted.
The injunction application arose from Papa Shee's announcement on February 2, 2026, regarding an event to honour the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba. Titled 'The Celebration of the Life of Daddy Lumba,' the event is scheduled for March 28 and March 29, 2026, in Accra. Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu subsequently filed an application to legally prevent the organisers from proceeding with the event.
