Accra: The Head of the Local Government Service, Professor Lord Kwaku Mensah, has urged Regional Coordinating Directors to embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve governance and public service delivery. Addressing participants at a training programme for Regional Coordinating Directors, Professor Mensah emphasized the need for effective leadership in today's rapidly evolving environment, highlighting adaptability, integrity, and a focus on results as key components.
According to Ghana Web, Professor Mensah encouraged the directors to uphold the core principles of professionalism, neutrality, and accountability while embracing innovation to enhance government operations. He stressed the importance of leveraging digital tools and artificial intelligence to increase efficiency, transparency, and service delivery within the public sector.
Professor Mensah elaborated on the transformative potential of digital technologies and AI in public service delivery. He noted that these tools could significantly improve planning, financial management, procurement, performance monitoring, and citizen engagement, thereby strengthening the overall governance framework.
Furthermore, Professor Mensah explained that the training programme is designed to equip Regional Coordinating Directors with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate Ghana's evolving governance landscape. He highlighted the programme's goals, which include clarifying roles within the governance architecture, enhancing decision-making capacity, acquiring practical tools for managing political-administrative dynamics, and building resilience to address emerging security challenges.
He concluded by urging participants to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme to ensure that government policies translate into meaningful development outcomes for citizens.
