Kumasi: Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has issued a strong warning to television stations across the country, threatening legal action against any channel that airs his movies without obtaining the appropriate rights.
According to Ghana Web, the actor, in a video shared on social media, declared that any station found guilty of illegally broadcasting his productions would be sued for damages, insisting that 'no form of apology' would save offenders. LilWin emphasized that this warning is not new and any station, regardless of its relationship with him, that broadcasts his films without consent is in trouble.
LilWin explained that his frustration stems from the current state of Ghana's movie industry, which he believes is struggling to regain its footing. He expressed concern for the industry's veterans and their ability to earn a living through acting. Despite these challenges, filmmakers continue to produce new content and have urged television stations to purchase broadcast rights in support of their efforts.
The actor lamented that while some broadcasters have embraced this appeal, many continue to rely on decades-old productions instead of supporting new Ghanaian films. He noted that some TV stations persist in showing movies that are 15 to 20 years old, urging them to consider purchasing rights to newer films for the benefit of both viewers and the industry.
LilWin acknowledged that television stations are not obligated to buy his productions but reiterated that unauthorized airing would lead to serious consequences. He concluded with a stern warning, asserting that no apology would prevent legal action and damages claims against offenders.
