Accra: Ghanaian movie star LilWin has expressed his views on the GHS20 million budget allocated to the Ghanaian movie industry, emphasizing the importance of distributing the funds to deserving filmmakers. He believes that the allocation has the potential to significantly enhance the quality of film production in the country if managed appropriately.
According to Ghana Web, LilWin, in an exclusive interview with Patience Adu, highlighted the necessity of vigilant distribution of the funds. He stated, “It has taken too long. I don’t know if they are sharing it or not, but it is really going to help if they give it to the right people. But if they don’t share it well and give it to people who have not even shot a movie in about 10 years, they will waste it, so they should be vigilant and give it to people who truly deserve it.”
LilWin also expressed confidence in his eligibility for a significant portion of the fund, citing his active contribution to the industry. “I believe when they are sharing, I will get about 80% because I am really putting in the work. My recent movie, ‘A Journey to Africa,’ is about Ghana, and that is what we need to put Ghana on international platforms,” he said.
This financial support was confirmed by President John Dramani Mahama as part of efforts to bolster the Ghana film industry, including Kumawood and Ghallywood, and to aid in economic diversification. The initiative was initially announced in 2025 by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, during the budget presentation to parliament.
