Laryea Kingston Expresses Interest in Black Stars Coaching Role

Accra:Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has expressed his desire to become the head coach of the Black Stars following the recent departure of Carlos Queiroz.

According to Ghana Web, the coaching position became available after Queiroz resigned on October 1, 2026, due to Ghana's poor start in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. In response, the Ghana Football Association and Ministry of Sports and Recreation have established a five-member committee tasked with identifying and recommending a new coach for the team.

Kingston has openly stated his willingness to lead the senior national team. In July 2026, during an appearance on World Cup Daily on Joy Prime TV, he shared his aspirations, saying, "I'm a Ghanaian, and I would love to hear that call [from the FA to come and coach the team]. There is no better joy than helping your country."

Since retiring from his playing career, the 45-year-old has been focusing on developing his coaching credentials. He has previously held a position as head coach of Ghana's Black Starlets and is currently involved with Uganda's youth national teams.

Kingston's playing career for Ghana was marked by significant contributions during the country's rise in the mid-2000s. He participated in the 2006 and 2008 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and was part of the generation that positioned Ghana as a prominent football nation in Africa.
