Lambussie: The Lambussie District Assembly in the Upper West Region marked the 69th Independence Day celebration with a directive for residents and students to undertake a clean-up exercise, aimed at ridding the district of filth.
According to Ghana News Agency, the clean-up exercise was organized in six zones - Lambussie, Chebogo, Hamile, Karni, Samoa, and Piina, and was led by circuit supervisors, sanitation officers, and security personnel. This initiative was part of the 69th Independence Day celebration activities.
Addressing the gathering at the Lambussie zone, Mr. Ireneous Basingbie, the District Chief Executive (DCE), stated that the exercise aligned with President John Dramani Mahama's directives for each district to choose an activity to commemorate the Independence Day celebration. He encouraged residents to organize clean-up exercises in their immediate environments and tasked sanitation service providers with collecting refuse gathered along streets and inner roads.
Mr. Basingbie highlighted the importance of patriotism, emphasizing the day as an opportunity to pay homage to the founding fathers and reflect on the nation's progress. He called on stakeholders and residents to engage in community clean-up activities to maintain a clean environment in the district.
Mr. Naa Peter, the Lambussie District Environmental Officer, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, pointed out the district's sanitation challenges. He noted that the clean-up was a positive step towards addressing issues such as typhoid, cholera, and other communicable diseases in the area. He urged all residents to actively participate in clean-up exercises to ensure a clean and decent environment.
Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie II, the Paramount Chief of the Lambussie Traditional Council, praised the DCE and assembly staff for their efforts and urged residents to celebrate the nation's independence with pride and patriotism. He called on citizens to reflect on the sacrifices of the country's forefathers and renew their commitment to unity and peace for the development of the district and the nation.
