Accra: Mr Ernest Yaw Anim, Member of Parliament for Kumawu, has endorsed former Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, as the most credible candidate capable of leading the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to victory in the 2028 general elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Kumawu MP stated that his endorsement of Dr. Bawumia is based on a careful and objective assessment of the party's current presidential aspirants and the political dynamics expected to shape the forthcoming general elections. He highlighted that the NPP's success in 2028 would largely depend on presenting a candidate with broad national appeal, solid governance experience, and the ability to unite the party while attracting floating voters.
Mr Anim expressed these views during a media interview ahead of the NPP's flag-bearer primaries scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026. He noted that among the five aspirants contesting the party's presidential slot, Dr. Bawumia stood out as the most marketable and credible option. The Kumawu MP cited Dr. Bawumia's extensive experience in public service, economic management, and governance, emphasizing his consistent demonstration of competence at the highest level of government.
He further stated that Dr. Bawumia had proven to Ghanaians that he possessed the vision, intellect, and leadership qualities required to steer the nation's affairs. Mr Anim added that Dr. Bawumia's record in office, along with his calm demeanor and policy-driven approach to politics, placed him ahead of the other contenders in the race.
Mr Anim also observed that the 2028 general elections were expected to be highly competitive, making it imperative for the NPP to field a candidate who could clearly articulate policies, connect with ordinary Ghanaians across all regions, and command credibility both locally and internationally. In his assessment, Dr. Bawumia embodied these attributes more than any of the other aspirants.
He urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party to exercise wisdom and foresight during the upcoming primaries, stressing that the decision on January 31, 2026, would have far-reaching implications for the party's fortunes in the 2028 general elections. Reaffirming his personal support, Mr Anim expressed strong confidence that Dr. Bawumia, if elected as the party's flag-bearer, would successfully lead the NPP into the 2028 elections and secure victory for the party.
