Accra:Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has called on Ghanaians to take action beyond verbal criticism regarding the appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo to the Electoral Commission by President John Dramani Mahama. He emphasized the importance of holding the government accountable through more concrete measures.
According to Ghana Web, Kpebu expressed concern that merely expressing dissatisfaction would not suffice if political leaders continued to prioritize their interests over the public good. He suggested that citizens should not wait for elections to challenge decisions they disagree with, but instead take immediate steps to address such issues.
Kpebu encouraged the public to voice their objections to ensure that their concerns are heard by the President. He highlighted that the appointment presents an opportunity for citizens to demand greater accountability from the government regarding the Electoral Commission's independence and composition.
He concluded by urging Ghanaians to remain vocal and proactive in seeking accountability, both at the polls and in other ways, between elections.
