Accra: Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has strongly criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, responding to Agyebeng's remarks about political resistance faced by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
According to Ghana Web, during a National Dialogue on the OSP held on March 31, 2026, Kissi Agyebeng highlighted that Ghana's political class remains uncomfortable with the existence of the OSP, labeling the challenges as 'existential battles' driven by political opposition. Despite these hurdles, Agyebeng assured that the office is steadfast in its mission to combat corruption and promote accountability in public governance.
Reacting to these statements on Channel One's Newsroom on the same day, Kpebu asserted that the Special Prosecutor should assume responsibility for the challenges confronting the office. He criticized Agyebeng's suitability for the position and suggested that he should have resigned long ago. Kpebu accused Agyebeng of misleading the public and failing to take action against former finance minister Ken Ofori-Atta, who allegedly has several cases pending against him.
Kpebu further argued that the OSP is attempting to deflect attention from its own deficiencies. He claimed that Agyebeng allowed Ofori-Atta to leave the country and falsely informed the public about efforts to arrest the former minister, citing lack of support from National Security and other agencies, which, according to Kpebu, was later denied by those agencies.
