Ghanaian giant, Asante Kotoko have inched closer to lifting the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League title after labouring to defeat Hearts of Oak 1-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Nicknamed the Porcupine Warriors, the team based in Kumasi today played hosts to the Phobians at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
In a game serving as a week 24 clash between the two most successful clubs, there was a lot at stake for both teams.
Knowing that a win would boost the chances of winning the league title, Asante Kotoko perhaps was the most motivated side.
As expected the team started the game on a good note as the attack piled pressure on the Hearts of Oak defense.
Eventually, the pressure paid off in the 17th minute when the hosts were awarded a controversial penalty kick.
From 12-yards, leading striker Frank Etouga Mbella stepped up and converted in style to give Asante Kotoko the lead.
Having managed to defend very well in the remainder of the contest, Asante Kotoko have recorded a narrow win over Hearts of Oak to secure three crucial points.
Courtesy of the victory, the Reds stay top of the league table and look set to lift the title at the end of the campaign.
