Korle Bu:Construction and installation of the new cardiac catheterisation laboratory at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital have been fully completed, as confirmed by Abraham Fiscian, Project Manager for ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group. The facility is now operational, replacing an earlier lab that was destroyed by fire, following necessary building modifications and equipment installation.
According to Ghana Web, Fiscian made these remarks while addressing the media after the Parliamentary Select Committee on Health visited the National Cardiothoracic Centre at Korle Bu to assess the facility's operations. The Korle Bu cath lab is part of a government initiative to establish such facilities at three major hospitals across Ghana, including Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Fiscian explained that initial assessments revealed inadequate space for the planned installation at Korle Bu, necessitating re-engineering before the equipment was supplied and installed. The facility, commissioned in June 2026, has since been providing essential services to patients.
ADB Ghana Medical Systems Group has a one-year equipment maintenance agreement with the hospital, during which it will address equipment and building challenges. After this period, the hospital will assume responsibility for maintenance, including establishing necessary systems for building upkeep.
Fiscian emphasized that the company will remain available for the next 12 months to handle any technical issues, leveraging its local expertise to promptly address challenges. The three-site project aims to expand access to specialized cardiovascular services in Ghana, facilitating critical diagnostic and interventional procedures at major referral hospitals.
