Kofi Bentil Reveals Alleged Conspiracy in Ghana Airport Cocaine Seizure

Accra:Lawyer and IMANI Africa Vice-President Kofi Bentil has disclosed allegations of a conspiracy involving a recent cocaine seizure at Kotoka International Airport that culminated in Beirut. Bentil shared an account from a source detailing how the suitcases containing cocaine were allegedly transported to the tarmac and loaded directly onto an airplane.

According to Ghana Web, Bentil's source claimed that during such operations, a specific group from various security agencies, including Customs, NACOC, BNI, National Security, Police, and Aviation Security, is on duty. The source suggested that the luggage is taken to the tarmac without any scrutiny and loaded into designated areas on the aircraft.

The source further alleged, as reported by Bentil, the use of a code phrase "NNE WO NYAME NKO (Go with your God)" during the operations, implicating that "Nacoc is lying" and suggesting government involvement. Additionally, it was mentioned that following the arrest in Lebanon, Lebanese Customs reached out to Ghana Customs rather than NACOC.

On October 31, 2026, a Syrian national was detained at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut after arriving from Accra with approximately 40kg of what Lebanese authorities described as 46.7kg of cocaine, marking the largest drug seizure from a passenger in the airport's history. NACOC stated on November 1 that the arrest was part of a coordinated controlled delivery with Lebanese authorities, aimed at capturing suspects on both sides of the network. The explanation has faced skepticism from security analysts and opposition figures questioning how such a quantity was permitted to leave Ghana if there was prior intelligence. NACOC has indicated ongoing efforts to pursue accomplices within Ghana.
