Keta: The Keta Municipal Assembly, in partnership with the Education Trust Fund (GETFund), has rescheduled the sod-cutting ceremony for five major infrastructure projects at the Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco) to Friday, May 15, 2026. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to preside over the event, which will officially mark the commencement of these significant developments.
According to Ghana News Agency, the ceremony was initially set for Monday, April 29. However, it was postponed due to President Mahama's visit to Fuveme in the Anloga District, a community impacted by tidal wave destruction, which coincided with the original date. The decision to reschedule was made by stakeholders of the assembly.
Mr Wonder Setsoafia Deynu, Deputy Public Relation Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Keta Constituency, stated that the projects include the construction of a multipurpose assembly hall, a dining hall with kitchen, a two-storey science laboratory equipped with necessary tools, a three-storey 18-unit classroom block, and a steel bridge. These projects aim to enhance the school's infrastructure and improve the learning environment for students and staff.
He explained that the multipurpose assembly hall will provide a space for academic, cultural, and co-curricular activities, addressing a gap that has hindered the school's ability to host major events. The planned dining hall with a fully equipped kitchen will improve feeding arrangements, providing students with a hygienic facility for meals.
Mr Deynu highlighted that the two-storey science laboratory is expected to bolster practical science education, supporting better performance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines. The three-storey 18-unit classroom block will help accommodate the school's growing student population and alleviate overcrowding.
The ceremony will also be attended by Volta Regional Minister Mr James Gunu, Keta MP Mr Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpey, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr Wisdom Seade, assembly members, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders. Additionally, the assembly plans to initiate road construction work and a steel bridge connecting Atiavi, Tsiame, and Abor in the Municipality to enhance economic activities and improve residents' quality of life.
The public, including chiefs and assembly members, are encouraged to attend the ceremony in large numbers to support the initiative.
