Ken Agyapong’s Bono East Campaign Coordinator Declares Support for Bawumia’s 2028 Bid

Accra: Dr Stephen Appiagyei Donkor, Bono East Regional Coordinator for Kennedy Agyapong's campaign during the 2026 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, has declared his support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the party's preparations for the 2028 general elections.

According to Ghana Web, Dr Appiagyei Donkor, who also serves as the Chief Executive Officer of GIFAS Group of Companies and Managing Director of GLOBE TV, made this declaration during a courtesy visit to Dr. Bawumia on June 26, 2026. He emphasized the importance of unity and reconciliation within the NPP to ensure success in the upcoming elections.

During the visit, Dr Appiagyei Donkor highlighted that the NPP's success hinges on unity and cohesion among its members following the internal presidential contest. "What the NPP needs now is total unity and cohesion to prosecute the 2028 agenda," he remarked. He further stressed that the primary elections are behind them, and it is time for the party to work together as a single unit for the common goal of winning the next general election.

He reiterated his dedication to supporting Dr. Bawumia's presidential ambition, stressing that party unity should be prioritized over individual interests. "I am fully committed to supporting Dr Mahamudu Bawumia because I believe this is the moment for all party faithful to put aside our differences and unite behind a common purpose," Dr Appiagyei Donkor affirmed.

In response, Dr Bawumia expressed gratitude for the support and emphasized that such gestures exemplify the unity the party requires. "I love people like Dr Stephen Appiagyei Donkor who have the party at heart," Dr. Bawumia stated. He underscored the importance of prioritizing the NPP's collective interests over personal ambitions to become a formidable force that can earn the trust of the Ghanaian populace.

Dr Bawumia also urged party members and campaign teams to conduct their political activities respectfully and maturely, cautioning against personal attacks that could undermine the party's unity. "I encourage you to prosecute your campaign without acrimony or insults. We should engage one another with dignity because bitterness and personal attacks have the potential to destroy the unity of our party," he advised.

The meeting is anticipated to bolster ongoing efforts within the NPP to promote reconciliation and enhance party cohesion as it gears up for the 2028 general elections.
