Kumasi: Work has commenced on a GHc 43 million centralized pharmacy project at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi. The four-storey facility will enhance the management of pharmaceutical products and services at Ghana's second largest health facility and is the first of its kind in the hospital's 70-year history. According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, emphasized at the sod-cutting ceremony that the project marks a significant advancement in the delivery of specialist pharmaceutical services. He noted that the initiative is part of efforts to provide timely and comprehensive healthcare to patients visiting the facility. Prof Addai-Mensah described the project as a symbol of collective determination to overcome healthcare delivery challenges. The new pharmaceutical complex is funded solely through the Internally Generated Funds of the hospital, specifically from its Drug Revolving Fund. The facility will feature a warehouse, a total parental nutrition unit, drug information and pharmaco-vigilance units, and a compounding or production unit, among other facilities.
