Accra:A former Deputy Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Jennifer Queen, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC)'s Gifty Enam Gbedevi engaged in a heated exchange during the October 15, 2026, edition of UTV's Adekye Nsroma show. The discussion focused on the appointment of Emelia Afi Agbenyo as Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission by President John Dramani Mahama.
According to Ghana Web, Gifty Enam Gbedevi argued that Emelia Afi Agbenyo was competent and capable of fulfilling her duties effectively. She expressed her surprise at the Minority's opposition to the appointment, which she saw as unnecessary given Emelia's qualifications. Gifty noted that the Minority, with its 88 seats in Parliament, did not have sufficient numbers to effectively hold the government accountable.
Gifty suggested that the Minority MPs should be equipped with laptops to work from home as an alternative to opposing the appointment. This suggestion led to a strong reaction from Jennifer Queen, who found Gifty's comments disrespectful to Ghanaians and the Minority in Parliament. Jennifer questioned the appropriateness of suggesting on national television that MPs work from home due to their numbers in Parliament.
Jennifer further argued that the ruling government had experienced election losses in the past, and criticized Gifty for bringing what she deemed private conversations into a public forum. The disagreement between the two escalated, resulting in a heated exchange during the live broadcast.
