Involving Youth in Educational Decision-Making Crucial for Future Success: Amankra Appiah

Feyiase: Dr. William Amankra Appiah, Ashanti Regional Director of Education, has emphasized the importance of involving young people in shaping the future of education. He highlighted the necessity of tapping into the energy, creativity, and perspectives of the youth to develop an education system that empowers individuals and transforms societies.

According to Ghana News Agency, Dr. Appiah made these remarks during the 2026 celebration of the International Day of Education in Feyiase, located in the Bosomtwe District. He underscored the relevance of involving young people in educational decision-making, which he believes is essential for making them significant contributors to society. He also mentioned the Otumfuo Education Fund as a transformative initiative in the Ashanti Region and beyond, urging stakeholders to prioritize quality education delivery.

Nana Addai Gyamera, Feyiasehene, shared his views that the future of education should be a collaborative effort with young people, rather than something delivered to them. He suggested that by involving youth in the construction of their educational future, they would be more invested in sustaining and improving upon it. This year's celebration focused on the theme: 'The Power of Youth in Co-Creating Education.'

Nana Gyamera further stated that the future of youth encompasses more than just classroom learning, examinations, and certificates; it also involves innovation and new possibilities. He emphasized that young people are now seen as co-creators and future leaders, being educated not just to pass exams but to become custodians of the nation and to enhance what they inherit. The youth are encouraged to attend school with purpose, respect learning environments, and honor authority and peers.

Madam Elaine Oppong Peprah, Administrator of the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation, reiterated the Foundation's commitment to supporting education and nurturing children to become innovative and change agents. She urged stakeholders to continue their support in nurturing the next generation.

In support of education delivery, Mr. Kwaku Oppong Amponsah, Chief Executive of Adwinsa Publications, donated 2,500 assorted reading books to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Foundation. Additionally, AngloGold Ashanti contributed books to students during the ceremony.
