Accra: The Ministry of the Interior has suspended the licence of Kantanka Security Services Limited following the shooting of Madam Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya.
According to Ghana News Agency, the decision was announced in a statement issued by Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister of the Interior. The suspension came after preliminary investigations pointed to a possible violation of the Private Security Organisation (PSO) regulation, 1992 (LI 1571), which governs the operations of PSOs in Ghana.
The Ministry's statement highlighted allegations against Kantanka Security Services Limited, including the use of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorized possession, and use of firearms and ammunition. These actions occurred during the provision of private security services on Sunday, 21st June 2026, at Kwabenya in Accra, constituting a serious breach with significant implications for public safety.
As a result, the Ministry has directed the company to immediately halt all operations pending the conclusion of investigations. Institutions have been advised to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited until further notice. The company is also required to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service to facilitate a thorough investigation.
The suspension is described as an administrative measure aimed at safeguarding public safety and security. The Ministry assured that appropriate actions would be taken upon the completion of the investigations, in accordance with the laws governing private security operations in Ghana. The public is encouraged to report any unlawful activities involving PSOs to the nearest Police Station.
The statement also reminded PSOs of the public notice on uniform compliance issued on February 5, 2026, by the Ghana Police Service, urging adherence to these regulations. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to ensuring strict compliance with all regulatory requirements by PSOs and warned that necessary actions would be taken against any PSO found breaching the law.
Madam Sarah Adwoa Safo sustained a gunshot injury to her left ear while visiting her late father's residence at Kwabenya on Sunday, June 21. The police have initiated investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and six persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
