Hamile:The Minister for the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, has announced a ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, and other offensive weapons in Hamile Township and its surrounding communities in the Lambussie District of the Upper West Region. This decision follows a deadly explosion in the area.
According to Ghana Web, the explosion has also prompted the imposition of a curfew from 600 pm to 500 am, effective immediately. The Ministry's statement, issued on Facebook on November 3, 2026, clarified that the decision was made by the Interior Minister based on the advice of the National Security Council and executed through an Executive Instrument.
The curfew aims to maintain order and security in the area, with strict instructions for residents to comply with the restrictions. The statement also emphasized that anyone found carrying arms or ammunition in the affected area will face arrest and prosecution.
The government has appealed to local chiefs, opinion leaders, youth, and residents to remain calm and refrain from violence while efforts are underway to address the situation. It urged the community to use peaceful methods to express their grievances.
The explosion, involving a motor tricycle transporting suspected dynamite, resulted in the death of a Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) officer and left another officer in critical condition. The incident, which occurred on November 3, 2026, raised security concerns about the transportation of explosives through unauthorized routes. Reports indicate that the civilians transporting the explosives were also killed after allegedly evading a security checkpoint and being pursued by security personnel.
