Interior Minister Commissions New Dormitory to Enhance Female Student Accommodation at Kumasi Academy

Kumasi: Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Asawase, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art 400-bed girls' dormitory at Kumasi Academy, signifying a significant advancement in the school's infrastructure aimed at improving the living conditions for female students.

According to Ghana News Agency, the project was financed through the GETFund and was realized through the efforts of the minister to address the persistent accommodation challenges faced by female students at the institution. The dormitory not only provides ample sleeping space but also includes a 20-seater toilet facility and 20 bathing cubicles, highlighting a commitment to student welfare and hygiene.

Alhaji Muntaka shared his satisfaction with the completion of the project, which had been on hold for twelve years due to a change in government after its initiation in 2013. He reiterated the importance of ongoing investment in educational infrastructure and affirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government's focus on prioritizing education.

Discussing future plans, Alhaji Muntaka mentioned his advocacy for upgrading Kumasi Academy to a Grade A status, conditional on meeting infrastructure standards. He pledged to continue supporting the school's development and urged students to focus on their education while avoiding detrimental behaviors like drug abuse.

Mr. Samuel Gato, Headmaster of Kumasi Academy, expressed deep appreciation for the minister's contributions, including a pick-up vehicle, a bus, and 1,500 pieces of furniture, which have improved the school's operations. He also raised concerns about ongoing issues, such as poor internal roads and unfinished ICT projects, calling for prompt solutions to maintain educational quality at the school.
