India’s Additional Secretary of Commerce and Industry, Amardeep Singh Bhatia, has highlighted plans to bolster the partnership between India and Ghana.
He said this at a convention of trade officials from Ghana and India in Accra for the fourth session of the Joint Trade Committee (JTC) to enhance bilateral trade and economic relations.
Amardeep Singh Bhatia emphasized the interconnected nature of global trade and the mutual benefits of shared investments.
‘We have a long-term agenda to discuss during the JTC, so we hope to finalize that in a very cordial and good atmosphere.
‘Some of the areas that we are looking at are a greater partnership in the pharmaceutical areas, a greater partnership in IT and the digital public infrastructure area, where we have strengths, and also looking at more cooperation in agriculture, more cooperation in capacity building, as well as hoping that this will also give a boost to further trade because we have a business delegation that we hope will also be able to forge partn
erships with our Ghanaian counterparts and take that trade forward,’ he said.
The discussions aimed to finalize a long-term agenda to strengthen partnerships in key sectors and encourage Indian companies to expand their involvement in Ghana.
The meeting also involved talks with AfCFTA officials to deepen trade ties, recognizing India’s position as the fifth-largest global economy and Africa’s potential within the AfCFTA economic zone.
The JTC’s history dates back to its first meeting in Accra in 1992, with subsequent sessions in Delhi.
Indian investments have played a significant role in Ghana’s economy, with FDIs comprising 7.61% of Ghana’s total in 2021 and historical investments reaching $2.2 billion over 870 projects.
