Accra: Hajia Nimatu Abdulai Yamboni, the Founder of the Yamboni Foundation for Zongo Women, has emphasized the critical importance of incorporating women into leadership roles across all societal levels. She advocates that facilitating opportunities for women to lead and have their voices heard not only fosters inclusiveness but also bolsters their participation in decision-making processes and contributes to national development.
According to Ghana News Agency, during an interview coinciding with International Women's Day, Hajia Yamboni remarked that with adequate support and opportunities, women could significantly impact national progress. She urged society to discard traditional and religious notions that preclude women from occupying certain positions, asserting that women possess capabilities equal to any other gender and deserve equal opportunities to demonstrate their potential.
The Yamboni Foundation for Zongo Women, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), is dedicated to advocating for women's empowerment and promoting inclusivity in leadership roles within Zongo communities. The foundation's initiatives aim to empower women by equipping them with the necessary skills, tools, and resources to assume leadership positions and contribute positively to society.
Hajia Yamboni underscored the significance of International Women's Day, highlighting that it serves as a platform to raise awareness about the global challenges faced by women. The theme for this year's International Women's Day 2026, 'Rights, Justice, Action,' calls for a concerted effort by women and girls worldwide to eliminate barriers to equal justice, such as discriminatory laws, inadequate legal protections, and harmful social norms that undermine the rights of women and girls.
She further encouraged women to demonstrate restraint and respect in leadership roles, emphasizing that their conduct could serve as a model for future generations of female leaders. Hajia Yamboni expressed her belief that an increase in women occupying leadership positions could lead to a more equitable and just society where everyone's rights are acknowledged and respected.
