Implementation of TRAFFITECH-GH Programme Postponed to November 1, 2026

Accra:The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has delayed the start of the TRAFFITECH-GH Programme, an automated traffic law enforcement initiative, moving its implementation to November 1, 2026.

According to Ghana News Agency, the programme was initially set to commence on October 1, 2026, but has been postponed to allow more time for public education and awareness before enforcement begins.

TRAFFITECH-GH will employ advanced technology, including radar, high-tech cameras, sensors, and Personal Data Assistant (PDA) devices, to identify drivers violating traffic laws. The system will capture offences such as running red lights and speeding, with personnel reviewing the footage to ensure accuracy and prevent unjust penalties.

Drivers found guilty will receive an Electronic Notice of Violation via SMS, detailing the fines. They will have the right to contest these offences in court.

The MTTD believes the programme will curb traffic violations, reduce road accidents, and enhance adherence to traffic laws throughout Ghana. It is designed to support, not replace, the manual enforcement efforts of police officers.

The alleged offenders can make payments through the Government of Ghana's electronic payment platform (short code *222#) or other payment options.
