IMF Team Arrives in Ghana for Economic Review

Accra:An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission has arrived in Ghana for the country's first review under the Policy Coordination Instrument (PCI). The mission, led by Dr. Ruben Atoyan, the IMF's Chief of Mission to Ghana, will focus on assessing the nation's economic performance and progress on reforms aimed at maintaining macroeconomic stability.

According to Ghana Web, the visit will include discussions on the proposed 2027 Budget and its alignment with Ghana's commitments under the PCI. The IMF team will evaluate fiscal performance up to September 2026, with particular attention to revenue mobilization and measures for enhancing government revenue.

The mission will also address other critical areas, such as the recapitalization of the Bank of Ghana and supervision across the financial sector. Additionally, the team will examine challenges in the energy sector, including legacy debts and their impact on government finances.

The IMF team plans to meet with government officials, central bank representatives, and other stakeholders before releasing a statement on their findings. This review is part of Ghana's engagement with the IMF under the PCI, a framework designed to support economic reforms and strengthen the country's ability to withstand economic shocks without direct borrowing.
