Accra: New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman aspirant, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has declared his readiness to lead the party back to power. He pledged to unite the grassroots, strengthen diaspora structures, and fix internal cracks ahead of the 2028 elections.
According to Ghana Web, speaking during a strategic engagement with the Asia and Pacific Caucus of the NPP External Branches, Wontumi emphasized that the diaspora and grassroots will be central to the party's rebuilding agenda. The meeting brought together NPP executives, members, and supporters across Asia and the Pacific to discuss strengthening party structures abroad, deepening diaspora participation, and aligning external branches with the party's 2028 victory strategy.
Addressing the caucus, Wontumi commended members for upholding the NPP's values of 'Development in Freedom' beyond Ghana's borders. However, he was critical of the party's past approach to its base, stating that the party failed to effectively engage the grassroots and diaspora. He acknowledged the need to listen to their concerns and harness their contributions.
Wontumi stressed that external branches should not be seen merely as fundraising arms but as strategic partners in policy, advocacy, and voter mobilization. He also highlighted the importance of leadership cohesion, asserting that trust, respect, and unity between the Flagbearer and the National Chairman are essential for success.
On discipline and reconciliation, Wontumi insisted that the party must maintain discipline while working towards healing and reconciliation. He mentioned plans to engage former flagbearer aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and unity for the party's future.
The Chairman aspirant also suggested possible structural reforms, including a review of the delegates system to potentially involve a wider membership in electing party executives. Declaring his ambition, Wontumi expressed his readiness to lead the party back to power, focusing on uniting the party and energizing the grassroots.
Members of the Asia-Pacific caucus described the engagement as 'timely and motivating,' pledging to intensify mobilization efforts and project the NPP's values abroad.
