Washington: Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has disclosed that Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, is reportedly living a normal life in Washington, DC, and does not outwardly exhibit signs of severe illness. This revelation comes amidst ongoing discussions about Ofori-Atta’s health and its implications on his legal proceedings.
According to Ghana Web, Manasseh shared these insights during an appearance on TV3 on January 10, 2026. He emphasized the sensitivity of health-related matters but stated that observations from individuals regularly encountering Ofori-Atta suggest he is not severely incapacitated. “When it comes to health, you cannot say much, but according to these sources, they see him [Ofori-Atta] living normally. That is what the sources say. Sometimes you see him out, and sometimes he gets visitors. So it’s like that’s the outward appearance. That’s what these sources say,” Manasseh explained.
He also acknowledged that appearances alone cannot definitively determine a person’s medical condition. “But of course, this is a health issue; you cannot just see someone and assume everyone is right,” he added. If the claims by Ofori-Atta’s lawyers regarding his recuperation are accurate, then reports of his public activity might align with that position. “But if they say he’s recuperating, I suspect he’s getting better, as the lawyers may have said, because from people who see him, that’s from the outside, it doesn’t look like someone who is very sick,” he noted.
The investigative journalist further mentioned that information from Washington, DC, supports earlier reports that placed the former finance minister in the US capital late last year. Manasseh also referenced Ofori-Atta’s travel history, confirming his presence in the United States. “And I think this information we are getting from Washington DC is consistent with somewhere last year, December or so, there were some reports that he was cited in Washington DC,” he remarked.
He concluded by detailing Ofori-Atta’s travel records, which indicate that he departed from Ghana on January 4, 2025, via United Airlines flight 997, headed for Washington, DC. “And if you look at his travel records, he left this country on January 4, 2025, departed from Terminal 3, and then the airline he boarded was the United Airlines flight 997. That airline was headed for Washington DC, so it looks like his location and life within the DC area have also been confirmed,” Manasseh stated.
