Accra: Bright Honu-Nudokpo, an aspiring member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Executive Committee (NEC), has urged the Minority in Parliament to set aside what he terms 'hypocrisy' and engage constructively to ensure the effective functioning of the 9th Parliament. His comments come amidst a conflict between the Majority and Minority caucuses over the Committee of the Whole's decision to conduct a closed-door session with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama.
According to Ghana Web, the Governor's appearance before Parliament was to address questions on the Bank's interventions in the foreign exchange market and the sources of foreign exchange for those operations. The Minority criticized the exclusion of the public and media from the proceedings, alleging that the Majority aimed to prevent the Governor from acknowledging the impact of the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme on foreign exchange reserves and economic stability.
In defense, the Majority insisted there was no intention to hide information, stating that a closed-door session was essential to protect sensitive financial data that could affect Ghana's economic stability. The inquiry was initiated by Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, who sought details on the Bank's foreign exchange interventions, including figures since January 7 of the previous year and the source of funds used.
Honu-Nudokpo expressed disappointment over the Minority's decision to walk out and address the media, describing it as a deviation from parliamentary procedures. He argued that raising allegations outside Parliament's formal processes does not enhance accountability or serve national interests.
In an interview on July 17, 2026, Honu-Nudokpo urged opposition Members of Parliament to prioritize national development over partisan interests, highlighting that constructive engagement and responsible oversight would strengthen the legislature's credibility and support the country's progress.
