Hohoe: Mr Prosper Kumi, Hohoe Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has emphasized the necessity for Hohoe to gear up for increased business activities, given its status as a significant commercial hub in the Volta Region. Mr Kumi highlighted the strategic importance of Hohoe's location along the Eastern Corridor Road, which serves both traders and travelers, and noted that markets are a crucial driver of commerce in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Kumi made these remarks during the ceremonial handover of a construction site for a new 24-hour economy market project to contractors by the Municipal Assembly and key stakeholders. The new market is expected to complement existing trading centers and centralize commercial activities within the municipality. Originally planned for a two-acre plot, the project has now expanded to four acres to accommodate future growth.
Mr Kumi acknowledged that construction may pose temporary inconveniences to traders, particularly market women, but assured that the Assembly would work to mitigate any challenges. He urged traders to remain patient during the construction period and called on the construction firm to prioritize hiring local labor to boost local livelihoods.
Togbe Keh XII, Divisional Chief of Gbi-Wegbe, speaking on behalf of Togbega Gabusu VII, praised landowners for their cooperation in releasing land for the project. He expressed confidence in the project's timely completion and stressed the importance of unity among stakeholders for its success.
Madam Rebecca Titriku, Secretary of the Hohoe Market Women Association, appealed to the contractor to stick to the project timeline and assured the Association's support. The project, which has a budget of GHS31,504,272.80, is expected to be completed within 30 months.
