Ho Traditional Rituals: No Travel Ban as Asogli State Provides Clarity

Accra: The Asogli State Council has clarified that traditional cleansing and purification rituals scheduled for Ho will take place from 10:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, 2026, through to the dawn of Saturday, September 12.

According to Ghana Web, the council, acting under the authority of Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of Asogli, issued the clarification following what it described as misleading messages circulating on social media about the planned rituals. In a statement signed by the Secretary of the Asogli State Council, Stephen Tetteh, the council stated there was no restriction on travelling to and from Ho during this period.

They explained that the rituals were traditional cleansing and purification rites being performed by the chiefs and elders of Ho in response to the recent spate of road accidents in the township, which resulted in the loss of lives and properties. The rituals aim to cleanse the town and seek spiritual protection, peace, and the continued well-being of its people.

The council also emphasized that the rituals were not connected to the annual Asogli Te Za celebrations and did not form part of the 2026 Te Za program. It assured that all scheduled activities for the 2026 Asogli Te Za would proceed as advertised.

However, the council appealed to residents, visitors, and the general public to respect the solemnity and sanctity of the rituals. It advised that all church programs and other organized activities should, as far as practicable, end by 9:30 p.m. Operators of recreational centers, including pubs, drinking spots, and similar establishments, were also expected to conclude their activities by 9:30 p.m. and avoid actions that could interfere with the performance of the traditional rites.

The council provided the route to be used for the rituals for public guidance and urged the public to disregard misinformation, advising reliance on official communications from the Asogli Traditional State Council for accurate information.
