Accra: The Ho Municipal Assembly has procured two brand-new Mitsubishi L200 pickup vehicles using its Internally Generated Funds (IGF) to enhance revenue mobilisation, inspection, and administrative operations. The vehicles were officially handed over to the Assembly on Thursday, with Mr Stephen Adom, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), highlighting the acquisition as part of efforts to boost the Assembly's operational efficiency.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adom noted upon assuming office that most of the Assembly's vehicles were unserviceable, leading to high maintenance costs and frequent breakdowns. The Assembly decided to reserve funds from certain accounts to address these issues, resulting in improved revenue mobilisation and the purchase of the new vehicles. The pickups are intended to support revenue mobilisation and administrative activities, particularly for the Building Inspectorate and Works units that require reliable transport for inspections and field operations.
Mr Adom also mentioned plans to procure another Toyota Hilux pickup before the year's end to further bolster the Assembly's vehicle fleet. Additionally, the Assembly aims to repair and refurbish existing vehicles to reduce expenditures on breakdowns and ensure more vehicles are available for official duties. Vehicles needing major repairs, such as engine replacements, will be fixed and returned to service, alongside refurbishing older vehicles.
A comprehensive vehicle maintenance plan is set to be introduced, ensuring regular servicing and attention for all Assembly vehicles. The Assembly is also working to recruit a transport manager, as directed by the Local Government Ministry, to manage the transport systems and maintain adherence to the vehicle maintenance schedule.
Mr Henry Yao Amesimeku, the Municipal Coordinating Director, received the vehicles on behalf of the Assembly, expressing gratitude to the MCE, Assembly Members, and the Finance and Administration Sub-Committee for their support in acquiring the vehicles. He emphasized that the procurement, funded entirely by the Assembly's IGF, reflects a commitment to improving operational capacity. Amesimeku expressed confidence that continued revenue mobilisation efforts would allow for the purchase of another vehicle before the end of the year, further aiding the Assembly's operations and financial management.
